For many years the Southern California Contractors Association’s Legislative Committee has led an active program that supports the association’s members by monitoring several hundred California bills each year that could potentially affect the construction industry. SCCA’s Legislative Committee educates the members about the legislation and actively takes positions on bills when necessary.

Due to the success of this program and in recognition of the fact that important decisions and activities take place at the local government level and not just at the state level, under the auspices of the Legislative Committee, SCCA conducts a local government relations and advocacy program to engage at the municipal, county and regional government level throughout Southern California.

The local government program allows the association to monitor and track several local agencies, including the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and the Orange County Transportation Authority.

The local government program also monitors relevant activities in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties and in the City of Los Angeles. Through this program and with input from SCCA members, we are able to quickly respond to issues and concerns when they arise and provide viable solutions.

SCCA’s local government program also works to establish and develop relationships between SCCA members and key local elected officials and agency personnel. This encourages a dialogue between the different stakeholder groups.

During the past year, SCCA members have met with several officials and they will continue to do so in 2019. These meetings create an opportunity for the association to make itself known and to present SCCA members as an important source of information that is available to local officials on matters relating to construction. The meetings also provide a forum in which members can become informed about upcoming projects.

If you have any questions about the Local Government Advocacy Program, would like more information about the program or, better yet, would like to get involved in the program, please contact the SCCA Office at 657-223-0800 or info@sccaweb.org.
