Positive Business Relationships Our membership meetings are issue-oriented experiences with local and regional experts in a variety of fields providing in-depth information to our members and their guests. The meetings also offer genial networking opportunities at all levels of the industry. Representation on Labor issues SCCA is a leader in labor negotiations with the major trade union locals in Southern California, coordinating with other associations. This practice has resulted in successful, long term relationships with the trades that resolve issues equitably for all parties. We actively represent our members in grievance and arbitration procedures as well. Workers' Compensation Savings--ADR SCCA founded the Alternate Dispute Resolution Trust with Local 12 of the Operating Engineers to help employees get back to work sooner after an on-the job accident. This program provides an mutually approved panel of doctors for treatment and representatives to help employees get proper, timely care. The success rate for our ADR members has helped them reduce their workers' comp premiums by a minimum of 15% and as much as 45%. We are also active participants in the ADR programs of the Laborers, Carpenters, Ironworkers and Cement Masons. The SCCA acts as a key a source of information for members, with a variety of media: SCCA Magazine, published bi-monthly, reaches thousands of readers articles on topics of importance for all union contractors; SCCAtterings is a members-only electronic newsletter that carries hot news that just won't wait for the magazine publishing cycle. Our Bulletins treat important topics in depth; our Annual Directory is supplied to public works directors, public and private owners as a means of helping members market their services and products. SCCA is the southern California state chapter of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, the most powerful advocacy group for improving our nation's transportation infrastructure. We actively participate in ARTBA events in Washington D. C. and SCCA members sit on the group's Board of Directors. The association maintains a highly experienced legislative information service in the state Capitol, acting on behalf of all members as an advocacy resource on topics before the legislature and state and regional agencies. SCCA provides this support on the local level as well, through efforts in concert with the Construction Industry Fund Liaison program and our own local government committees. Social Opportunities for Friends & Family SCCA sponsors several social events each year, for our members to mix and mingle with their peers. We host two golf tournaments each year (April and October). Our PAC Auction and President's Gala in November are considered the top parties in the Southern California construction industry each year. SCCA is governed by its members, with an active slate of officers and a board of directors which includes signatory and affiliate members. The daily operations of SCCA are managed by a highly professional team of construction industry association personnel with more than 75 years of combined experience in the field. Contractor membership is open to contractors signatory with the Operating Engineers, Laborers, Cement Masons, Ironworkers, Carpenters or Construction Teamsters. Affiliate memberships are offered to those companies connected with the construction industry as product and equipment vendors or service providers. A SCCA member may recommend new members or they may apply on their own by providing information requested on the application form. The SCCA board of directors meets monthly to review and approve applications. |
